On a warm September morning, the Henley Hurricanes U10s faced the Hawley Hawks in the next phase of their pre-season. It was great to see several games taking place – even coffee and bacon rolls were being served!
Both teams were looking to tune up before the season starts. The Hawks defended well, and were a continual threat on the break. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, had spells where their passing game and communication really clicked. Man of the Match Jack Callaway, Will Lindsay, Oscar Robinson and Will Goulden moved the ball around the pitch quickly and accurately, and combined with Jack Tookey’s penetrating crosses forced the Hawks’ keepers into some excellent saves.
At the other end of the pitch, there were some solid defensive performances. Will Goulden continued to be decisive, and Luca Currie was calm, reading the game well. Harrison Carpenter Buckett was alert to the threat posed by the Hawks’ long balls, and used his height well in midfield.
The Hurricanes have one more game remaining – against local rivals Rotherfield United – before the season starts.
